Look what showed up on my facebook wall last night. No, this guy didn’t just make a misogynystic status update, he went out of the way to post this silly joke on my wall. To be cute? To be ironic? To piss me off? He failed in all three categories.
I didn’t really get too angry about this because I knew the guy was just trying to get a rise out of me. I see questions like “what’s the best way to respond to a kitchen joke?” all the time, and I think this is a pretty good way of handling it. Making someone realize that misogyny isn’t a joke while congratulating them on their comic depth seems effective, although he seemed unable to pick up the heavy sarcasm in that first comment.
Anyways, this is guy is a cousin of one of my friends and I’ve only actually seen him twice ever. The first time I met him was at a house party with friends (he was visiting). After offering me shot after shot (I took the first few but declined after that), he ended up sitting next to me and at one point started to run his hand up my thigh. I got up and walked away, and nothing else happened. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it was definitely creepy and not okay. He and I haven’t really spoken since then (I saw him once at another party but didn’t say much to him). So imagine my surprise when I see him posting this on my wall.
Like, dude, do you want me to publicly call you out? Because what I really wanted to respond with was “Maybe you wouldn’t be sexually harassing women if you realized that misogyny isn’t a joke.”
