QuestionCould you recommend your favorite; books, movies and music? you have good taste Answer

Aww this is so flattering, thank you very much! I can’t promise that you will like the things I do, because everyone has different tastes, but I will happily share with you the things I enjoy, and I hope you enjoy them too! :D Feel free to recommend your own fav books/movies/music that you think I would like, anon or not, I’d love it :)

With books, argh, I really haven’t been reading a lot these past two years, probably since I got my laptop. But before then I was definitely a ‘reader’. I’m just starting Game of Thrones atm, because I’m enjoying the TV series. Hm, let’s see, well I LOVE Harry Potter ^.^ I really enjoyed the Hobbit but I don’t think I have the patience to attempt the Lord of the Rings. >.< Some random books I really enjoyed are Flowers for Algernon, Animal Farm, The Better Angels of Our Nature, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, argh, I can’t think of any more just now, sorry! I need to do more reading, I really want to read 1984.

Movies: ah, well, I am still keeping up with the movie-watching! :D My dad is a huge film buff, he’s always recommending great movies to me but for a long time I didn’t pay attention coz they were all too intense/scary/violent whatever. But I’m starting to expand my boundaries and watch things like Shutter Island, and Fight Club, even though I knew they would disturb me e_e My partner George is also coincidentally a movie person, so that’s something we really enjoy together :) So, I absolutely love the movie Minority Report, and anything by Hayao Miyazaki, I’m a big sucker for Pixar (and quite a bit of Disney), I’ll always love The Princess Bride, I’m keen on the (more recent) Batman films, and V for Vendetta, and the Matrix, and Lord of the Rings of course… District 9, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Schindler’s List… ok I’d better stop now xD

Music! I used to be friends with real music-y people, but I’ve fallen out with them so I don’t have any real new input, and I’m stuck with stuff I already know, or hear on mainstream radio. My favourite artist is P!nk (and I get a lot of shit for that), but I just really enjoy her songs, both the pop ones and the lesser well known ones with lyrics that I really connect to. Other artists I like are Alanis Morissette, The Beatles, Coldplay, some Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Panic! at the Disco, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tim Minchin :) I’m sorry if you’re a really hard-put music fan and some of these choices make you cringe~! >.<

Woohoo long post! Thank you again for asking me, I feel all special ^.^

QuestionUnpopular opinion challenge! 14, 16 and... 20 Answer

Ooh, I found these ones really hard!

14. A hobby you have/find interesting that other people bother you over/make fun of.

Hmm most hobbies I have I think people okay with… does atheism/anti-theism count as a hobby? I’m asked so many times why I care about it so much, like “why do you always talk about religion if you don’t believe in it, why can’t you just live and let live, why are you always looking for the problems with religion” etc etc ad nauseum. It is something I have invested a lot of time in and find fascinating. Perhaps a third of this blog is atheism-related, I went overseas to attend the Global Atheist Convention, and I can’t even see my friends’ posts on my Facebook feed anymore: all the atheist pages I follow have taken over xD

16. Something in school you hating doing and it felt like everyone else loved.

Um…going? xD But I guess I wasn’t the only one who didn’t enjoy it. One thing that springs to mind is the couple of months (and honestly sometimes it was more than six months) before our school dance or ball, how everyone would just talk and talk about it… are you getting a corsage, who are you taking, what are you wearing, what are you doing before/after, where are you getting your makeup/hair done, did you hear about so-and-so who is taking whats-his-name… god, it was just this perfect picture of my school: privileged rich white girls living in their own little box, with nothing better to talk about. (This is very harsh, obviously there were some lovely people and I did participate in the ball discussions myself, but yeah, this was definitely running through my mind. The dances themselves I enjoyed ^.^)

20. Free rant on whatever grinds your gears at the moment.

Ooh I was actually writing a post about this last night that I saved to drafts but I might as well put it in this ask :) [TW: SELF HARM] Here it is:

Why the fuck are you commenting on something wrong with my body that I am obviously hyper-aware of? The next time someone points out the self-inflicted scars on my arms, and I’m going to act all surprised and say, “Holy shit! You’re right! Where did those come from? I’ve never seen them before?”

Do you point out when someone has a visible pimple or mole? Do I have to remind you that it’s fucking rude to blatantly point out differences in someone? I can forgive you if you’re five years old and at the, “are you pregnant or just really fat” stage where you ask rude things because you don’t know any better, but FUCK, the amount of teenagers and adults who think it is always appropriate to tell me that my arms are scarred, what the fuck is wrong with you?

I was okay wearing short-sleeved tops until people like YOU broke down my confidence and now I am terrified to wear singlets. But gee, it’s only my self-confidence, obviously your intrusive curiosity is sooo much more important!

/end rant

Thank you for asking! x

“I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought. Giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I’m capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me, and I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me.”  A quote from the end of a speech given at Reason Rally by Mythbuster Adam Savage

facesofatheists:

My name is Chloe, I am 18 years old, and I live in New Zealand. I am a first year university student studying psychology, sociology and development studies. Atheism and anti-theism are passions of mine and I will be attending the Global Atheist Convention in April this year.

Hey there Chloe, thank you for submitting your tid-bit to Faces of Atheists. Best of luck with your studies, and enjoy the Global Atheist Convention (sounds awesome!).

Sooo I started playing Mass Effect 1 with George! I love it so much. I wish I wasn’t so stressed at the moment, any time I’ve tried to play I’ve felt guilty for not doing more productive things. But anyway, I really liked this pic because most Shepards are male, and this one is close to what my female Shepard looks like, except mine has red hair and green eyes. I love Tali, she has the most gorgeous accent and is an all-round babe.

"Admit it. You aren’t like them. You’re not even close. You may occasionally dress yourself up as one of them, watch the same mindless television shows as they do, maybe even eat the same fast food sometimes. But it seems that the more you try to fit in, the more you feel like an outsider, watching the “normal people” as they go about their automatic existences. For every time you say club passwords like “Have a nice day” and “Weather’s awful today, eh?”, you yearn inside to say forbidden things like “Tell me something that makes you cry” or “What do you think deja vu is for?"

Is it really conceited if this I am going “gpoygpoygpoygpoygpoygpoy” in my head as soon as I read this? Either way, holy fuck, this post is just so freaking relevant my brain nearly asploded.
