Casting Practices in Hollywood [bahstudios]
Did any of you guys ever notice that in the Pledge of Allegiance, you all say, “One nation, under God”?
You might. I don’t. I’m quiet during that part.
Did you know that this was added to a godless pledge in the 1950s during the cold war?…
If they didn’t live in America, why would this pertain to them in the first place?
Because your post said “Dear atheists”, not “dear American atheists”. Atheists exist in other countries, you know.
Did any of you guys ever notice that in the Pledge of Allegiance, you all say, “One nation, under God”?
You might. I don’t. I’m quiet during that part.
Did you know that this was added to a godless pledge in the 1950s during the cold war? And that it’s clearly unconstitutional and that atheists and secular activists have been fighting it for years?
Dear Dumbass,
Did you ever stop to think that NOT EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD LIVES IN FUCKING AMERICA? And that there are ~gasp~ people who LIVE IN OTHER COUNTRIES and don’t say the fucking pledge of allegiance?
Did I just blow your mind, OP?

Community,
Tumblr is a great resource to build awareness, find community and promote your projects. However, one thing that troubles us is a new form of “slacktivism” unique to Tumblr, but also present in variations on other social platforms: Someone will post a call for support (access to a resource, assistance with fundraising, information about a topic, etc.) and many people - sometimes hundreds - will re-blog that call … but won’t do anything else. They read the headline and want to support, so they re-blog … but don’t do anything else.
This is problematic.
If you truly want to help an individual, project or movement that you find through Tumblr, you need to do more than re-blog.
Read the call for support, not just the headline. See how you can tangibly help out. It will take more than two seconds to do this - it might take five minutes, or an hour (between your other tasks). That’s OK. Being part of a community and supporting something means contributing in ways that make sense for you.
Re-blogging - on its own - does not provide solutions. If everyone just re-blogged calls for support, nothing would change. Many grass root movements such as ours work on a shoestring budget and utilize as many free ways as possible to build community, as well as to access resources.
Don’t just re-blog. Pause. Consider options. Connect the dots. See if there is anyone in your network who can help if you don’t think you can. Make suggestions. Do email intros. Reach out. This is all within your power.
Don’t just re-blog. Don’t just “love.” These are nice gestures but to make real change, we need more than gestures. Re-think how you view your own personal power and then put that power to work to support communities and endeavors your care about.
You can be a “real” activist online. People who say that the only activism that counts is IRL are sorely mistaken. But in order to be a real change agent and to transform your world and the lives of others, you have to do more than re-blog.
Thanks for listening.

I often feel very powerless on tumblr, because most of the blogs I follow are American, and the direct calls for help are like “anyone in the Missouri area willing to let me stay the night”, “asking for clothing donations in NY” etc etc. Even the ones where all they want is for people to call up a certain number is not really possible, due to international calling bills. And there’s no chance I can be of much help with the ‘Missing Person’ posts :( I can’t even share stuff on Facebook as a way of helping, coz my fb friends have proven time and time again that they just don’t care.
I don’t really know how I can help, though every part of me wants to :(
Not being American and having to watch the Americans vote for Romney is like the moment in horror movies when the audience is screaming at the character to not go down to the basement but they still do anyway and then they die a brutal, torturous death…
this is the fucking best descripition about the election omg
Global Gender Gap Report 2012: The Best And Worst Countries For Women
You know how people like to say the US is the “best country in the world?” well, check this out….
The report ranks 135 countries (which collectively contain over 90 percent of the world’s population) based on 14 indicators used to measure the size of a nation’s gender gap in four key areas:
1. Economic participation and opportunity, which includes female labor force participation, wage equality and the percentage of women in high-ranking jobs.
2. Educational attainment, which looks at female literacy and how frequently women are enrolled in higher education.
3. Health and survival, which is measured by comparing female and male life expectancy and mortality rates.
4. Political empowerment, which examines the number of women holding political office as well as the number of female heads of state over the last 50 years.Well, last year the US ranked #17. Guess where we are now? #22. We dropped FIVE SPOTS IN ONE YEAR. This is in SPITE of even more mainstream coverage of these so-called “women’s issues.”
Now imagine if Romney takes the White House. Politicians who want to take away the rights to our bodies (which is key to our economic success), call rape a “gift,” will run around being unchallenged. We will only go down in terms of gender equity. There is a lot of work to be done.
New Zealand is number 6! :D
It is so frustrating to be a Canadian. You are affected by USA politics nearly as much as as they are but have no say in the elections. It’s like being a Siamese twin to an angry self destructive alcoholic with a gun fetish.

Wake the F**k Up! (by SchlepLabs)
How Did Mitt Romney Make Samuel L. Jackson This Angry?
This is so fucking brilliant, I wish all political ads were this entertaining :D Watch it!
I love these.
Fuck you, Mitt.
Romney (and his family) directly benefited from the social safety net, and now he wants to pull the ladder up behind him.
These are great, but do we really NEED any more motivation to say Fuck you, Mitt?
Fuck you, Mitt.
Homer votes for Mitt Romney and then is promptly sucked down a tube and outsourced to China in a brand new election-themed Simpsons short.
The Simpsons do better social commentary than half the shows out there, even after all this time.
This gif kind of symbolizes how he would run the country. He takes from the middle and adds to the top but when the top gets too heavy and there isn’t enough of the middle left to support the top, the entire thing collapses.
^ this fucking comment.

If you can look at this and say the media is not controlled by people who want to keep you docile and ignorant, I don’t know what else to tell you.
mmmmhm.
