please signal boost.
Oh hell no, how come I’m just now seeing this? SIGNED.
[I know what it’s like to skip over posts like this because you’re so broke you can’t even help yourself. This is not asking for money, it’s asking for a signature and widespread attention. Please give it a look.]
I’ve honestly never thought I’d ever write one of these, but here I am and I’m asking for Tumblr’s help.
Amaris Hayden, a woman who I am very happy to know, who taught at my college last year before moving to Nevada, is currently dying in a Las Vegas hospital bed. Her health care provider, the Health Plan of Nevada, made a mistake and Amaris missed a week of her medication. She has a lung disease that requires several medications daily, and when she missed that week, her body began rejecting her lungs. Now, she is being REFUSED to be transferred to the University of Washington Transplant Center for the help she needs because her health care provider claims it is “out of network.”
She will die if she does not get help.
For every moment she is in the hospital, she is losing more and more lung fluid.
Her finger points to the amount of lung fluid in healthy people. That little yellow arrow there shows us how much SHE has.
We are not asking for any money. Just the help she needs.
This her facebook support page. It has many ways for you to help.
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION: STOP DENYING OUT OF NETWORK, LIFE-SAVING CARE TO PATIENTS. We currently have 28/78 signatures, and many more would not hurt at all.
Here you can contact the Health Plan of Nevada.
And here you can send a message to the governor.
And from Amaris herself:It seems like the insurance company is content to sit on their hands until I disappear, but I am not going to go gently into that good night. So, it’s time to motivate them to move. Please write a short email urging the local media to do a story on my case. It doesn’t have to be long, just a short paragraph telling them about me and how I am rejecting my lungs. Tell them I have been waiting at the hospital for 2 weeks to be transferred while the insurance refuses to send me to where I can get treatment. The doctors here have done all they can. I am running out of options and time or else I wouldn’t do this, but I will die if I don’t get help. Every second I am here, I lose more lung capacity. Please help and share this to others who know me and those who will care.
BOOST!!!
The real Death Panels in action, y’all. Go forth and sign.
Sign the petition!
Sad, but true
Goddammit, I can’t even get a single friend to sign one fucking petition. I need more people in my life who actually, you know, give a shit? I get angrier and angrier at facebook every day. I just want to yell “WHY DON’T YOU CAAARE!?!” One petition. One fucking petition. All you have to do is put your name and email address. But no one does it.

Here is a compilation of websites where you can sign petitions for various causes: human rights, animal rights, environmental rights, you name it. It can often be disheartening only doing social justice work online, and aside from donating money (which not everyone has the means to do) it is easy to feel like we aren’t making a difference.I encourage everyone to bookmark/subscribe to these sites, because they all involve taking action with tangible results and at zero cost. I promise you, receiving the “Victory!” email letting you know that the petition you signed has worked is a very good feeling. You can shove those emails in the faces of those cynics who say that online activism achieves nothing.
Please add to the list if you know of more, or message me and let me know!
(NB: From the Amesty.org homepage you can select your country, however I still subscribe to other countries’ websites so I can sign petitions for causes all around the world.)

Idk.. more than half of these organizations are ran by and used by white people. And lots of them don’t think of how something, like, getting everyone to boycott one industry may only affect PoC. I’ve seen lots of racist, heterosexist and classist petitions on change.org…
These are great resources, but some site don’t monitor what’s actually going on.
I am genuinely sorry for only posting white people websites. Please let me know of any others run by PoC: I would really love to have them on my list.
I definitely agree with your point about some of them not being monitored: basically change.org, thepetitionsite, ipetitions… any site where anyone can set up a petition for any cause. I reported a petition on change.org which was a call for all girls to have long hair coz otherwise they looked like lesbians -___- It’s still up as far as I know (but with only like 9 signatures). And although there are plenty of pro-choice petitions, there is no one stopping pro-lifers starting petitions on there, and ironically putting them under the category “Women’s Rights”.
But yeah, like I said, I am very keen for more suggestions! This is just a compilation of ones I have come across during my time on teh internetz :)

Making posts on Tumblr CAN change the world. Getting ideas out and talked about is so so so so so important. Anyone who says it’s a waste of time does not understand how revolutions work.
This gives me hope that I’m not completely wasting my time. :)

Yeah I get that Urban Dictionary is supposed to be all witty and satirical, but please sign this petition if you think that this kind of racism is not acceptable.
Here’s the link to UD’s page for “Maori” which seems to have been taken over by racist skinhead fuckwads.
The ones that drink all day steal stuff and have no jobs (if they do have a job its the garbage man) and wonder why their so poor, and usually have a family van, with about 8 kids and COUNTLESS COUSINS :) and to prove this listen to the song maori boy hehebro im gonna go buy some beer with the $200 dollars the government gives me… somtime later moneys all gone, bro why have i got no money??…. maoris…maori are New Zealanders who have found a new way to exploit anyone with money, Generally anyone who lives in New Zealand is a New Zealander, however some of the population of “Aoetaroa” have decided they’re different from the rest of us. They don’t even need to have a different skin colour, just some sort of very weak and diluted claim to a realative who didnt even originate from this country. Unfortunately the weak polititions of New Zealand have given them almost anything they want to avoid an “Uprising” or to put anyones nose out of joint. It is really sad what has become of this country, and its people, maori is way of spelling uncontrolable ridiculously ignorant seperatism of a once fine nation. It is also a way of spelling “we will lie about anything” including the fact that our ancestors were fooled, destroyed and educated by the English settlers who were years ahead of them.“Awwww bro I got one 800th maori in me I think on my dads uncles brothers wifes ex mother in-laws side so I can get into Uni and stuff for cheap aye and dont even have to try”
“Aww bro the laws dont apply to me Im maori” ….. how does that make you special….
AND YOU’RE NOT BLACK!!!!
“Dying Young: Comparing death rates for young people in the rich world”
Apr 25th 2012, The Economist
ADOLESCENCE can be tedious all over the world. But in some countries it is dangerous too. Even within the rich world mortality rates for young people vary widely, as do the factors explaining these rates, according to data collected by George Patton of the University of Melbourne for an article published in the Lancet on April 25th. In Greece, suicides are rare but car accidents are common. In Finland it is the other way round. America stands out for having the highest mortality rate. It has a particularly high rate of traffic deaths, despite laws that ban drinking until 21. Where America is truly exceptional, however, is in its violence. At 8.9 per 100,000 population, the rate of violent death (such as from homicide or accidental shooting) is 18 times higher than in Britain. For young American men the risk is much higher. The death rate from homicide for 20-24 year olds is a staggering 28 per 100,000 population.
Holy crap. WTF NEW ZEALAND
Help support a pro-choice student under attack from her university administration and Fox News.
An art student at my school, Western Kentucky University, is getting tons of national heat right now for her own backlash against a pro-life group. The group covered an entire set of bleachers with 4,000 crosses and from the art classroom windows you could see that it spelled out the word “LIFE.” They also targeted students walking by and asked them questions about abortion and had a board up that said, “How do you justify abortion?”
This went on for a full week. She, I and many others at my school felt voiceless and bombarded. She responded with an art piece for her class, which was covering the crosses in condoms. The university police did not interfere as it was a freedom of speech, but now my school administration is demanding a public apology from her and does not support her actions. She has so far refused to apologize, but nationally, there is no one on her side, especially since Fox News got involved.
Please read this blog post by a gender and women’s studies professor at WKU for more details and educated insight. Show support and show this student and my school that she does not owe an apology. We’re trying to make this viral enough to where we can get Rachel Maddow to pay attention and speak out about it. Help spread the word, reblog this post and let’s overtake the bigoted anti-choice voices that are attacking this student right now.
EDIT: There is now a petition that will be sent to the school. Please sign and spread this around!
I adore seeing all these signs together, it makes me feel like change is actually happening
