So I’ve been following the abortion and pro choice tags for a while now and watching debates unfold about how those who choose to abort are “murdering an unborn child.” I think that’s bullshit.
A child is most commonly defined as a human between the stages of birth and puberty, and that’s what most of us perceive it to mean. When someone says “you’re acting like a child” you would probably think of a fussy toddler. When you see a commercial about helping children in third world countries, you assume that the children that are in need are probably between the stages of birth and puberty.
Unborn means not born. It’s fairly blatant. When someone talks about their childhood, we do not assume they’re talking about their embryonic stage, or that one time they were a fetus or a blastocyst.
Basically here’s what I’m trying to get across:
- A human between the stages of
birthand puberty. Not born.- Ergo, fetus =/= child.
Do you see what I mean? It just cancels itself out.So let’s stop using crappy emotional manipulation in our political debates, okay? “Unborn children” is one big fat oxymoron, and all it does is weaken your argument.Perfect.

If anti-choicers keep calling fetuses unborn children I’m going to start calling children born fetuses.

Can’t you get a pet or something.
Abortion involves no babies, please stop crying over it. It doesn’t even affect or involve you.

Filmmaker Chris Hume’s latest addition to Urban Dictionary: embryocracy
True story? I think so, particularly with the GOP 2012 focus going ultra-culture war…
Can I call anti-choicers embryocrats now?
^ I plan to!!
