something i learned today:
the ratio between the size of one digit of one of your fingers and the next digit of the same finger is roughly Φ, the golden ratio. Their lengths line up in an approximate way with sequential fibonacci numbers, because as the fibonacci sequence progresses the ratio between sequential numbers approaches Φ. i illustrated this in that image using an arbitrary unit of pixels and the grid in photoshop.
but the real cool part is that because of this, when you curl and uncurl your fingers, the path described by a fingertip is pretty close to a perfect golden spiral! what sweetly built machines we pilot over the earth

A whopping 73% of scientists and engineers are white.
A 2006 study showed that white men make up 55% of scientists and engineers (the vast majority) and white women 18%. Asians were the only minority group with significant numbers working in STEM, holding 17% of the jobs between both men and women. When it comes to other minority groups, the statistics are striking. Black men and women make up less than 3% of scientists and engineers, Hispanics 4%, and all other groups 3%. Added together, under-represented minorities make up only 10% of all of those working in science and engineering occupations. Even sadder? Only one in 10 STEM professionals is a minority woman. I think I saw this once when I was a kid. My father, however, was a Junior High math teacher. He always showed Donald Duck in MathMagic land to each of his classes at least once per year. It is an awesome video. :) ~ Steve
Why ought you believe in mathematics? Is that reason not also based in faith?I’ll publish this for my followers. Does anyone else see the issues with these questions?

Firm belief in something for which there is no proof.
Let us prove that mathematics isn’t a faith. What is 9-9? Who got 0? What is 81/9? Who got 9? What is 5+5? Who got 10? What is the integration of x^2-5x+6? Who has this as there first step: X^3/3-5x^2/2+6x? Reproducible results; evidence; proof; not faith. Willful ignorance is the worst.
I saw it when the comment was added. I laughed. I’m really glad the the architects that designed my house used this reproducible and provable faith when making calculations. Oh my stars that was the funniest thing I’ve read in a really long time, and I don’t think it’s just the meds talking.
